It's Concert Time!

As we approach the end of the year, the students and I are both excited to share what we have been working on in the classroom with our family, friends, and colleagues. Since the last update, our Winter Concert has been bumped to December 13. As has been done in the past, we are combining our efforts along with the Art department for the event and they will begin showcasing their work at 6 PM. Before that, we will have our dinner options available around 5:30 PM - enough time for students to eat and be ready to warm up at 6:10 PM. By now, you should have received concert information brought home by your student either with a flyer or just with the letter sent home the week of Thanksgiving (I have attached both so that you can be sure you have the information!). The letter details some of the fundraising opportunities that our Boosters have going within our concert setting. Please feel free to contact them with any questions!

This month we are also excited to take a long break from the rigors of academics to enjoy more of the holiday season! For most content areas, this simply means a "brain break" but for musicians, we need to keep up the physical practices that we have been building over the year! An over two-week break from any physical activity will make it much more difficult to get back into that activity come the new year. (We have all tried "taking a break" from going to the gym, right? Still on that break? Me too!) So I expect most of your students will be taking home their instruments to "keep up their chops."
With that, the Winter recess is also a great time to do some routine instrument cleaning/care. During the last week of school, I will be demonstrating for every instrument group how to clean their instrument. Those students that are borrowing a school horn, in particular, are expected to return it cleaned! Along with the demo, students will have detailed instructions to take home that you can watch them complete! This is an practical responsibility that is a practice just as important as putting gas in, oil in, or doing other care for your car.
Lastly, if you are interested in helping out with our concert activities this month or any other future fundraising, we have this months Booster meeting on December 5th at 6 PM in the Band Room. See you all soon!
