It's November and the cooler weather has finally arrived. In the band room, it is a signal that it is the time for us to prepare music for our Winter Concert coming up on December 7th at 6:30 PM! We hope to see you there as we show off the work the students have done all semester.

At each of our concerts, we sell refreshments for our audience to enjoy before and between groups. We ask that the parents of our performers send in donated goods to add to our fundraising efforts. Information regarding what we need will be sent home with students in the coming weeks so be on the look out!

This month's Booster meeting is on Tuesday the 14th at 6 PM. See you then!

Each class is now finding their groove as we approach the end of the first quarter. The Symphonic band is preparing to join up with the FHS Regiment at the home football game on Friday, 27 Oct by learning some pep tunes, the Star-Spangled Banner, and the Fight Song over the next couple of weeks. The Intermediate bands are finally prepped on the daily care of their instruments and are now able to take their instruments home to practice! Strings are learning chords on guitar and learning how tough it is to use a bow on each of the other instruments. And Beginning Percussion are readying themselves for their first solo performance test!

With the Intermediate wind instruments coming home, the students are able to exercise more personal responsibility for their playing ability as well as their ability to maintain an instrument. All of the instrumentalists will be learning how to thoroughly clean their instruments before the end of the semester and this is an important step in their understanding of its importance. 

Similarly, as the Symphonic Band Parents can read about, the FHS Football game will give those students the chance to see what their future holds as they shadow the high school students through the rigor of a Friday nights' preparation and performance. 

I am excited for you all to see what these students can do by our December concert!

I am Mr. White, the new band director here at Fillmore Middle School! I am very excited to be joining the Fillmore staff and to be passing along the knowledge that I've gained over my years of music study and performance to the students at our school. 
Some things will look very familiar while a few different things will be going on this coming school year. As a part of Fillmore USD's Local Control Accountability Plan (or LCAP) we received funds to purchase instruments in order to start up a strings class! That class will be unique in that it will focus on small ensembles and will include chorus for the class. We will also be adding a beginning percussion class that will offer interested students the opportunity to properly play, perform, and maintain the wide variety of instruments within the percussion family before joining up with one of our higher-level ensembles or joining up with the FHS Band! The familiar wind bands will still exist at the beginning, intermediate (Concert Band), and advanced (Symphonic Band) levels and I look forward to fostering these students love for music.
