Forte a Fine

Strong to the end! A motto that  our students need to remember as we approach the close of the school year. This will be the last update until the next school year, and it will be packed with information, as the coming month will be packed with events!

The first thing coming up is the last Parent Boosters Meeting of the school year. I sent home a letter from the current (and outgoing) President with your students with notice of our need to fill spots that will be vacated by our current Booster officers. They will be continuing on at the High School to keep up their strong support of our students! Our meeting is TOMORROW NIGHT (May 1st) at 6 PM in the Band Room. Any of you looking to play an integral role in improving and sustaining your students' education, now is the time!

In just over a week on May 9th, members of our Symphonic Band will embark on a journey to perform at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Their performance will happen at about 11 AM, just after park opening, then they will have the day to enjoy until park closing! They are also looking forward to possibly playing in the May Festival Parade on May 19th. Save the date!

Strings and Chorus have been working hard all semester on their Folk Tune Research Project and they are about at the point of showing off their completed work! Each student will have learned to play and compose at least a part of the tunes that they will perform in classrooms on campus in the coming month. You will have the opportunity to see and hear their small ensembles at our Spring Concert!

Speaking of, our Spring Concert and Art Show is coming up fast on May 23rd! As we did for our Winter Concert, we will again have food for sale and will be sending home envelopes for pre-orders. This was a very fruitful fundraiser for us at the last concert, even with a low percentage of students participating in the fundraiser. Everyone has got to eat anyway, so since you will be there to support your student, why not eat with us and help in funding our music program? Be on the lookout for more information soon!

Lastly, as we approach the last weeks of the school year, students that borrow school instruments will need to turn them in. Before they do so, students are responsible for bringing them back in clean to the specifications agreed upon before checking them out from the school. Each student has a checklist appropriate for their instrument (also available on the band website) as to what the expectation is for the cleanliness of their instrument. We want these instruments to last as long as they should, and, like any machine or tool, the proper care will extend its life and allow for future students to use it to learn! After they are all turned in, students will have the opportunity to sign a summer instrument loan contract for those that are looking to keep up the work they have done over the year. I certainly hope many students take the chance to do so, or even have plans to get an instrument of their own!
